Presenting contemporary prints from the whole world is an exciting venture, above all because the triennale in Krakow had always reacted to new technical and artistic developments in printing with a great amount of openness. Today computer-generated graphics are nothing special anymore; in this respect the triennale had taken on a pioneering role and proven further vision decades ago.
Since 2007 the famous artist house of Vienna has also been an additional partner, helping to create a trilateral co-operation, which is also supported this year by the culture programme of the European Union. The idea of the concept is that every organiser forms an individual jury and that they select their choice from the works submitted to Krakow. In this way as well as a clear overlap, three exhibitions with various focus points will exist, and the works of prize winners will be presented in all three locations.
My thanks go to the guiding spirit of this event, the president of the international graphic triennale, Prof. Wietold Skulicz, the colleagues in the artist house of Vienna who took on the co-ordination of all the activities, and the curators in Oldenburg, Dr. Sabine Isensee, Dr. Jutta Moster-Hoos and Antje Tietken, who are responsible for the success of the exhibition.
